Using isopropyl alcohol is a powerful way to sanitize your doll, but it must be done with extreme caution as it is incredibly drying to the skin material. A standard storage routine is not sufficient after an alcohol cleaning; you need to follow a specific recovery process to counteract its harsh effects and prevent long-term damage.
The most critical step is to thoroughly rinse the doll with warm water immediately after the alcohol application. You must remove every trace of alcohol from the skin. If left to air dry, the alcohol will strip the material of its essential oils, leaving it feeling dry, brittle, and overly tacky. Rinse, rinse, and rinse again to ensure it’s all gone.
Next, dry the doll meticulously as you normally would, first with a soft towel and then by air-drying. Once the doll is 100% bone-dry, the final step is reconditioning. Be more generous with the renewal powder (cornstarch) than you might be after a normal soap-and-water wash. Use a soft brush to apply a complete, even coat over the entire body. The powder will help restore the skin’s soft, velvety texture and absorb any residual stickiness caused by the alcohol’s stripping effect. Skipping this reconditioning process after an alcohol cleaning can lead to a permanently tacky or cracked surface, so it should be considered a mandatory part of the procedure.
